And the beast shall be made legion...

Please note: This post was written some time ago (24 years ago). I was only 24 years old when this post was written. My perspectives, knowledge, and opinions may have evolved significantly since then. While the content might still offer valuable insights, I encourage readers to consider it in the context of its publication date.

I’ve preached about using good web browsers before, and perhaps the best of them reached an important milestone today. After three years in development, the Mozilla web browser reached version 1.0 today. It has better support for web standards than any other browser around. It’s fast, stable, and has a better security track record than Internet Explorer. Mozilla also runs on just about every computer out there, be it a Mac, Windows, or Linux running machine. It is my browser of choice and should be yours too. Go download it now.

I’m hard at work on a discussion paper due on Friday. It’s called a take-home exam, but it’s basically a paper. It largely deals with media bias, which is one of my favorite topics of discussion. The instructor is attemping to teach us to pick up on bias and poor reporting in the media. I’ve been pretty attuned to media bias for a while now, so what I’m really picking up in the class is the bias of the class itself. Although I’m not sure it is clear to the rest of the class, it is quite clear to me that the instructor has set a left-wing agenda for the course. Not uncommon in academia, but somewhat ironic in a class of this nature. He loves to poke fun at right-wing policies and personalities in various positions of authority. He also seems to go out of his way to find poorly written articles from the right for us to discuss in class. I’m quite far right and even I cannot defend the articles he picks out. I might agree with the basic position of the article, but I cannot support the poor argumentation.

Otherwise, I really like the instructor; in spite of his bias, I believe he’s the most capable academic in the department. I feel that I should approach him about the way he’s teaching the course, but I fear that it may jeopardize my grade. I’ve debated issues with him in the past, and I already know that he dislikes me. Perhaps I’ll put off the confrontation until after the semester; I think I’m the only conservative in the class anyway.
